For Judy Garland's birthday, I wanted to do something special for her since she was Peter Allen's good friend and former mother-in-law. She found Peter and his 'brother' Chris Bell of the Allen Brothers performing at the Hong Kong Hilton in 1964, and became their manager and her opening act.
When Peter first met Judy he was not really a fan, except for her movies, and didn't know about the concerts. Judy was instantly charmed by Peter who reminded her of Fred Astaire and played matchmaker for him and her daughter Liza Minnelli. Peter believed Judy liked him because he didn't idolize her or treat her like a movie star or a living legend when everyone else in her life did. He found her interesting, fun, and hilarious. He thought working for her was something you could never replace. He noted, "Judy was the most fabulous stage performer I've ever seen. There will probably never be anyone else who can generate the response that Judy did."
After Judy's death, Peter, with Carole Bayer Sager, wrote a song called "Quiet Please There's a Lady On Stage" and dedicated it to her. Listen to the rare audio recording of Peter's tribute to Judy when her signature tune "Over the Rainbow" was inducted into the 1981 Grammy Hall of Fame at: • Peter Allen's Special Tribute to Judy Garl...

The short video clips are from a Barbara Walters interview with Judy, Lorna, and Joey in 1967, "What's My Line" in 1967, and "On Broadway Tonight" in 1965.
The song used in the video is Judy and Peter's duet of "Just in Time" at the Westbury Music Fair, Long Island, in 1967. The song comes from a video Buzz Stephens shared on his YouTube channel at: / @buzzstephens1 THANK YOU Buzz for permitting me to use this rare recording on my video and for your great love and admiration for Judy.
