Описание: Jarrell Cove State Park is a Washington State Park on Harstine Island in South Puget Sound. It consists of 43-acres of forest with 3500 feet (1,100 m) of saltwater shoreline. Jarrell Cove was acquired in four parcels between 1953 and 1969.The Park was named after Mrs. Philura Jarrell the first woman pioneer to settle on the island in 1878.
Jarrell Cove Park is a saltwater haven with excellent opportunities for swimming, camping, and overnight boat moorage. The park is rife with opportunities for bird and wildlife watching, offering walks through dense stands of second and third generation trees along placid, opal-colored water. Harstine Island
The indigenous people of Harstine Island, Washington, were the Squaxin Island Tribe, who used the land for resources like shellfish, game, and trees for thousands of years before non-native settlement. in 1854, the Squaxin Tribe and other local tribes signed the Treaty of Medicine Creek with the U. S. government surrendering all mainland claims in exchange for a single, small island reservation.

The Island was named in 1841 by Lt. Commander Charles Wilks for Lt Henry J Hartstene, who was a member of the expedition. Hartstene was honored for a heroic act of delivering supplies to stranded crewmates.
For many years, the name was spelled differently (e.g., Harstene, Hartstein, Harstine) until 1997 when the Washington State Legislature officially adopted "Harstine Island".
European settlers arrived about 30 years after explorers, primarily engaging in logging, farming and oyster harvesting.
The community hall was built in1914. Electricity and telephone service did not become available until 1947. A county-operated ferry service began in 1922 providing the only access. After years of lobbying, the Harstine Island Bridge was completed in 1969, replacing the ferry service to the mainland vis Highway 3. (source internet research)
