Charlie Cushman recently tweaked this Ol' Flathead and gave it a fresh set up. His work and experience with these historic old Gibson Flathead Banjos is beyond reproach. The results were spectacular! Charlie has long been known as one of the greatest banjo players on planet earth. Charlie recently won a Grammy award along with his Bluegrass group The Earls of Leicester. Not too many people have played or set up more Gibson Prewar Flathead Banjos than Charlie Cushman. Saying Charlie is a Gibson Banjo expert is stating the obvious!
No Hole Flatheads with "Fat Boy" rims are extremely rare with perhaps around 20 of these instruments known to be in existence. 9471-4 has the power, bite, and cutting big time sound these "Fat Boy" "No Hole" Flatheads are known for. The Walnut and Chrome plating has held up extremely well over 85 years and this marriage seems to have provided a richness and sweetness in tone not normally seen in "No Hole" Flatheads! Its no wonder that Earl Scruggs recorded "GroundSpeed" on a Style 4 flathead and tried to recover that instrument for the rest of his life after getting rid of it.
