Orcas House is a modern, linear home designed by Leah Martin of Allied8 Architects, perched on a cliff with stunning north and south-facing views. The exterior, clad in aging Kebony wood, blends harmoniously with the surrounding forest, while the bright and open interior adopts a monochromatic, modern style. The house sits lightly on the land, touching the earth at only six points with a steel moment frame foundation, preserving the natural moss, bedrock, and trees. Sustainability is a key aspect of the design, with the use of 100% recycled steel to minimize the home's carbon footprint, reducing reliance on concrete. With just 1,386 square feet, Orcas House is remarkably efficient, able to sleep more than 15 people in various spaces, including a primary bedroom, bunk room, loft, and even outdoor tents. Designed for social gatherings and close interaction with nature, the home offers a seamless connection between indoor and outdoor living, demonstrating how architecture can coexist with and respect the environment.
