What an annoying enemy. I thought it was just a weird moveset at first, but this boss definitely has some janky hitboxes related to his thrust attacks. Not fun to learn or to kill.
The Crystal Staff did surprisingly well, similar to other staffs you still get the full physical damage despite the UI telling you otherwise. You waste a lot more stamina per bonk, but that's not a big deal on this boss.
If bleed worked, I would've used the Staff of the Guilty, but this overglorified club should suffice.
