Double action guns are more popular these days - but a lot of people struggle adjusting to that DA pull - we discuss how to correct this.
Mastering the double action of a DA/SA pistol is challenging. Most people do not have the patience to devote the time to correct the flaws in their trigger press technique so they hide behind a striker trigger and pretend that they're OK with it hitting low and left. The double action exposes bad technique, there is no question. If you learn to master it, it's as fast and accurate as any gun. But better than that, if you learn to shoot double action you can shoot just about any gun.
The foundation of the double action is the grip, you have to square that away before you can begin to fuss with trigger press. Once it's planted on the gun, you're putting a good squeeze on it front to back, you can bring on the support hand, and really crush down on the gun - again, with a front to back application of force. Then lock out the tendons on your strong hand wrist as you bring the gun UP to eye level. As you bring the gun up roll your elbows out. You want it to feel like the web of your hand is pressing into the gun - but not taking it off target. Once that sensation is in place, you can begin to address the trigger. Each person's "sweet spot" will differ. I'm a tip of the finger guy, many are first crease - one method will work for you, find it.
If you want to excel at IDPA, USPSA, or IPSC you must attempt to master the fundamentals.
