Group A action started with Salzburg taking on Lokomotiv in the opening window of Matchday 1. Lokomotiv started the game in the first half with a corner kick in the 19th minute. The ball played superbly into the box for Eder who headed it to give the Russians a 1-0 lead. Salzburg though had some magic in the first half. In the 45th minute Salzburg were awarded a perfectly played corner for Dominik Szoboszlai who scored the equalizer from distance. The two sides headed to the dressing room tied together. Salzburg were eliminated in the second half determined to break the score, and in the 50th minute they did so with a goal from Zlatko Junuzović. Then at 75' Vitaly Lisakovich, 22, making his UEFA debut, tied it back for Lokomotiv with a sharp header at the near post which the Salzburg keeper could not dodge.
