This is the sixth in a series of six web seminars that focus on the general architecture of the Next Generation Science Standards and the specific expectations for kindergarten through fifth grade. Presenters Mary Starr, Executive Director, Michigan Mathematics and Science Centers Network; and Kathy Renfrew, K-5 Science Coordinator, VT Agency of Education offer an overview of the NGSS for fifth-grade students. They discuss teaching strategies—such as Claims, Evidence and, Reasoning (CER) and Know, Learning, Evidence, Wondering and Science (KLEWS)—and address the topic of bundling performance expectations.
