I purchased this 306 pound Peter Wright avil from an old farmer in North Carolina. This anvil is probably around 200 years old or more. It had a damaged horn tip and it was chipped badly on the edges. It also had a pretty bad sagging in the center of the face due to many years of good use. I reshaped the horn tip wtih a heavy torch and refinished the edges using 7018 stick welding electodes. I then used a grinder to smooth out the welds and used various grinding discs to bring the face to a flat surface. I had to do this by hand because a number of different machine shops around town did not want to machine resurface the anvil due to its hardness. Doing it by hand was the only option that I had. It wook over 4 hours of hard work but the results were amazing and much better than what I had expected.
Stay tuned for part 2 of this video where I will reharden and retemper the anvil on the river bank and submerge the anvil in the water to finish the project. It will be fun and I cant wait to film and share this process with everyone.
