I (25F) have a six-year-old daughter with my ex (28M), who was my best friend's older brother. I had a crush on him for years, and when he came back from college, we started dating. I thought we were meant to be. A year in, I got pregnant—intentionally, as I wasn’t on birth control—and thought we’d start a family. But he didn’t want to be with me long term and refused to marry me, even after I got pregnant.

My parents were furious and said they should raise the baby, hoping it would pressure him to commit. Instead, he got a restraining order against them. After my daughter was born, I had no choice but to live with him. We shared the house—me upstairs, him in the basement—and only talked about our daughter. He wanted this arrangement until she started school, then I was to move out and only have her part-time.

Now, he’s trying to get back with his high school sweetheart. They’re the “perfect couple,” with perfect jobs. Meanwhile, I work at Safeway and feel like the unwanted, trashy ex. My daughter and he are extremely close, but with me, she’s defiant and distant—always saying “Daddy lets me…” and comparing us. It’s heartbreaking.

I’ve decided to terminate my parental rights and leave. My job is transferring me out of state, and I’ve got a place lined up. As part of the agreement, I won’t have to pay child support or contact her while she’s a minor. That’s fine by me. I’m tired of being unwanted by both of them. Maybe one day, I can have the family I deserve. I know people will judge me, but I’ve been judged all along. I’m just done.
