The exhibition "Hallyu! The Korean Wave" presents a dazzling kaleidoscope of South Korea’s artistic and cultural history and showcases its vibrant and diverse pop culture.

In 2012, "Gangnam Style" by PSY went viral, becoming the first music video to reach 1 billion views on YouTube. The music video gained prestigious awards and international fans with its catchy tune and horseriding moves choreographed by Lee Ju-Sun. Its adrenaline-fuelled video had a far-reaching impact, inspiring parodies from social groups in different geographical regions and cultural spheres, ranging from politicians to environmental activists.

Despite being dismissed as a fleeting craze, PSY firmly put South Korea on the global map of mainstream pop music and became the emblematic figurehead of "hallyu" across the world.

And now… the team at Museum Rietberg couldn’t wait to ride the wave! Inspired by the global phenomenon, we joined the trend with a lot of laughter, energy, and creativity – and proudly present our very own version of the legendary Gangnam Style dance.
