We often find that in spite of our best efforts,we do not succeed in our efforts. We do our best and still are perplexed to find that there are unavoidable obstacles at the time of accomplishment of our work and as a result we are unable to reach our goal, in the last moment.

Though our deeds are good and we may have not committed any crime, our family members face one trouble or other and do not get rid of the problems.

The belief makes us analyze what wrong we would have done in the past or present life and it's because of our Karmic debt or Pitra Dosha, the family members face unexpected hardships and difficulties which are inevitable.

They are repeatedly affected by some of the inherited diseases, transferred from one generation to the other, like cystic fibrosis, Down Syndrome, mental Sub-normality, diabetes, asthma, most cancers, heart attack as a result of cardiovascular disease, are the best examples of hereditary diseases.

Some astrologers believe that Pitra Dosha also occurs when:

1. Rahu is posited in 1st house (ascendant) or
2. Rahu is posited in 2nd house with no auspicious affect of Shubha Graha.

We have to detect which malefic planet is forming Pitra Dosha through the individual's astrological birth chart, then only Pitra dosha nivaran puja should be performed to pacify that malefic planet in Pitra Paksha, which generally comes in the the month of September or October. The rituals should be performed with sincerity and full faith to remember and pay homage to our forefathers.
However, Pitra Dosha is a bad Dosha (malefic combination) in an astrological chart, there is no need to worry about. Those who are suffering from problems or different chronic troubles and believe in Pitra Dosha should follow the following simple remedies:

DO's
1. Give food to crows, street dogs, cows, ants and fishes on all Amavasya and if possible daily.
2. Chant mantras
3. Remember all forefathers on all the significant occasions at your home.
4. Do respect your mother, father and other elderly persons in the family.
5. Help the needy and old persons as much as you can.
6. Donate food and Clothes
7. Sraddha,Tarpana or Pind daan should be performed in the afternoon, facing south direction with prescribed rituals.

DONT's
1. One is advised not to start anything significant. Any new activity should be postponed or avoided during Pitra Paksha, to remember and respect our ancestors.
2. All marriage related activities, celebrating the birth of new born, joining of new job, starting a new venture, constructing a new house and purchasing of new property, ornaments, clothes, utensils should also be avoided.
3. One should not wear new clothes or ornaments during Pitra Paksha.
4. Eating garlic, onion, non-vegetarian food or haircut should be avoided, especially on last day, Mahalaya Amavasya or Sarva Pitri Amavasya
