Compared to other psychoactive messengers, oxytocin is a fairly large molecule. However, in the retrosynthetic analysis it becomes clear that it is a peptide and that the synthesis can therefore even be automated using solid-phase synthesis. Ting Wang and Sam Danishefsky used a newly developed method to form the amide bonds, with isonitriles playing the key role.
