Traditionally forest-dwelling, the name Kattunaikka means “people of the forest.” They have a deep connection with nature and have lived for generations depending on forests for honey collection, medicinal plants, and food gathering.

The Kattunaikkas are known for their rich traditional knowledge, especially in herbal medicine, forest conservation, and honey harvesting. Their lifestyle reflects simplicity, cooperation, and respect for nature. Though modernization has influenced their lives, many still preserve their unique culture, language, customs, and traditional practices.

This video aims to highlight the culture, lifestyle, history, and challenges faced by the Kattunaikka community, and to spread awareness about their valuable contribution to biodiversity and indigenous heritage.

കേരളത്തിലെ വയനാട് ജില്ലയിൽ അധിവസിക്കുന്ന ഒരു പ്രധാന ആദിവാസി സമൂഹമാണ് കാട്ടുനായ്ക്ക സമുദായം. “കാട്” എന്ന വാക്കിൽ നിന്നാണ് കാട്ടുനായ്ക്ക എന്ന പേര് വന്നത്, അതായത് കാടുമായി ചേർന്ന് ജീവിക്കുന്നവർ എന്നർത്ഥം. തലമുറകളായി അവർ കാടുകളെ ആശ്രയിച്ച് തേൻ ശേഖരണം, ഔഷധസസ്യങ്ങളുടെ ഉപയോഗം, ഭക്ഷ്യ ശേഖരണം തുടങ്ങിയവ നടത്തി ജീവിച്ചുവരുന്നു.
