Farmacéutica especializada en Medicina Tropical y Salud Internacional, Mafalda trabajó en el desarrollo de proyectos socio-sanitarios con colectivos desfavorecidos en África Oriental desde 2008 hasta 2017. De regreso en Europa, funda Beyond Suncare, ONG que trabaja en la prevención de cáncer de piel y la promoción de la inclusión social de las personas con albinismo en África Subsahariana. Elegida “Champion on Albinism” por las Naciones Unidas y seleccionada como una de los 100 líderes de la economía española del mañana por el Instituto Choiseul, Mafalda es una optimista convencida de que la pasión, la perseverancia y la paciencia son las mejores armas para crear un mundo mejor.

Can you imagine that your own neighbors think you are a ghost? Or that a price is put on a part of your body? Or that your life expectancy does not exceed 30 years because you do not have a sunscreen cream nearby? Facing these questions and changing their answers has been the main driver of Mafalda's work and life for the last 12 years.

Mafalda Soto brings us closer to the reality of one of the most neglected and discriminated groups on the planet: people with albinism in Sub-Saharan Africa. In a natural and intimate way, she guides us through the stories of struggle and despair of some of the people that life placed in front of her. Without judgment and with great sensitivity, she tells us about exciting and incomprehensible encounters that would change the course of her personal and professional life forever.

A pharmacist specialized in Tropical Medicine and International Health; Mafalda worked on the development of socio-health projects with disadvantaged groups in East Africa from 2008 to 2017. Back in Europe, she founded Beyond Suncare, an NGO working on skin cancer prevention and promoting the social inclusion of people with albinism in Sub-Saharan Africa. Chosen "Champion on Albinism" by the United Nations and selected as one of the 100 leaders of the Spanish “Economic Leaders of Tomorrow” by the Choiseul Institute, Mafalda is an optimist convinced that passion, perseverance and patience are the best weapons to create a better world.
