A glorious day on a high elevation hike in central Oregon's unfrequented Ochoco Mountains. When snow still blankets the high Cascades in late spring and early summer, the snow-free high meadows of the Ochoco's are well into the wildflower season. The high point on our hike was 6,926 feet and not a speck of snow to be seen in the summit meadows.
To the west, we enjoyed clear views of the entire Cascade Range from Mount Adams (Washington) in the north to Diamond Peak (Oregon) in the south. The following 19 volcanoes were in view (from north to south): Mount Adams, Mount Hood, Ollalie Butte, Mount Jefferson, Three Fingered Jack, Black Butte, Mount Washington, Belknap Crater, Black Crater, North Sister, Middle Sister, South Sister, Broken Top, Ball Butte, Tumalo Mountain, Mount Bachelor, Kwohl Butte, Maiden Peak, Diamond Peak.
