How to Make Empanadas is the 5th installment of our Latin Fried Dough series. Empanadas are a Latin staple and enjoyed all over the world. Many Latin countries claims their version is the best! I won't argue because I've never met an empanada I didn't like. Empanadas are the perfect street food; they're hand pies stuffed with a savory filling that you can walk and eat while perusing the sights. Now, I've tried several empanada dough recipes throughout the years, but I love the recipe from one of my favorite food bloggers...The Noshery! There are so many different fillings you can stuff the empanadas with, but I'm using a typical Caribbean beef mixture called Picadillo. The dough and filling can be made ahead of time and placed in the freezer for later use. Make sure you roll out and form the empanada discs before freezing. If you're nervous about making homemade dough, you can use the Goya-brand frozen empanada discs that are readily available in most supermarkets. However, I encourage you to make this dough at least once, and when you do, you'll probably never go back to store-bought again! Make these empanadas today and Make it Sabroso!
