Written evidence of the origin of nec lace in Europe date back to the late 13th and early 14th century.
This type of lace is made by weaving a net (nec) with a long blunt needle and thread, which is then stretched onto a frame.
The woven net serves as a background for embroidery made using a sewing needle.
For now, there has been no written data about the origin of this lace-making technique in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Nowdays, only Bosnian Croat women in the vicinity of Orašje and Bosanski Šamac are familiar with the art of making nec lace.
According to the elderly population of the Orašje area, this type of lace was made by women of the area in the late 19th century.
The nec lace is, as a rule, bed linen ornament and is less often used to decorate the edges of women's dresses.
Between the two world wars, Bosnian Croat women from the area used to make nec lace and sell it in Slavonia.
Luca Šošić, Ruža Pejić and Manda Kopić are members of the Cultural and Artistic Association Ravnica from Oštra Luka and Boka.
They preserve and promote the art of making nec lace.
