This is Jake's journey from Taiwan to Maryland, USA in pictures. His Shelter Life, the Veterinary Hospital, a Foster Home to get him ready for the flight to California, then another foster home, until his final flight to Maryland where I picked him up and finally ... Home!
My heart is in adopting senior dogs all over the U.S., yet I always wanted to save at least one dog from another country. Jake is 9 years old and was severely underweight, living in the shelter since he was a puppy; kept in a cage most of the time so other dogs could not attack him. He is missing part of his nose from a congenital condition. He had little human contact for 7 years of his life until a kind volunteer gave him his first bath and affection. Jake found he very much likes affection. Jake acts just like a Lab, even-tempered, loving and friendly. Here is Jake's backstory at the shelter including pictures of him at my house. His name in Taiwan was Ba Jie. https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?s...
Jake is from a shelter that houses over 600 dogs. See, the brutal truth of the shelter: https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?s...
There are two groups of kind, caring, and compassionate people who help to save the strays and shelter dogs of Taiwan.
1) Heart of Taiwan Animal Care (HOTAC) - Sponsoring the dog's flights.
/ 131317953682349
2) A Ticket To Happiness (ATTH) - Finding adoption homes for each dog. / 315188751914653
The fee to adopt is $200 which pays for vetting, vaccines, HW test, and microchip. Sponsors of HOTAC even paid for Jake's teeth cleaning and blood work which showed Jake is healthy, so his dramatic weight loss came from the stress of his environment. Check out the other featured dogs currently at the shelter who are waiting for their forever home. https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?s...
Jake is gaining in leaps and bounds, becoming more confident and accepting of my love. He now asks to be petted and wags his tail a lot. The calmness of my pack has helped too. Jake has never had bedding before, and it turns out he really loves covers and pillows. He used to sleep in a tight ball with his arm over his face for protection, but now he opens up and stretches to relax. I'm grateful to everyone who made it possible for Jake to have a happy life for the rest of his life. I have a feeling Jake is grateful too. :-)

P.S. Jake would like to pay it forward to Qing-Qing 清清 - (https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?s...)
Qing-Qing is Urgent and up for Adoption. She is paralyzed in her back legs and needs a special wheel chair to prevent bedsores. In the shelter, she can only crawl and drag her paralyzed limbs on the concrete floor. This will cause her bedsores to eventually have massive bleeding and cause amputation of her legs. If Qing-Qing is adopted now, her bedsores can heal and she can keep her legs. Please share her story. Qing-Qing is very sweet and friendly to people and dogs.
