Machine Knitting For Beginners - Birdseye Jacquard Stitch

Описание: Hi I’m Emily Keller, and this is the birdseye jacquard stitch.

This is a great stitch to add custom artwork or pattern designs on your fabric. You can get really creative and have a lot of fun.

Using no more than 3 colors in the pattern works the best. It’s possible to use more than 3, but the stitch structure becomes more distorted and unstable with each added color. What happens is the front stitches become elongated, giving a higher chance of snagging and other damage to the fabric. So to keep it more durable, I recommend 3 colors max.

This is a double layer stitch and uses both beds of the knitting machine. It looks like jersey on both sides. The front side has the custom artwork. The back side , the colors are evenly dispersed automatically, making it look pixelated. This is called a birdseye jacquard.

And added benefit, this is a great stitch to make reversible pieces.

Birdseye Jacquard is a great stitch for:
1. Sweaters
2. Accessories like hats and scarves
3. Any item that you want a custom bold pattern or print design

When programming a birdseye jacquard, the stitch structure doesn’t take much time to program. Most programs have a preset module for this stitch. But the pattern will take some time since it’s custom. The placement and scale will need to be considered and adjusted. Show a technician at a computer
3. Price 4
Price tends to be low to medium. It’s a double layer stitch which makes it a little on the heavy side, so the added weight from using more fiber or yarn ups the price slightly.
4. Strength 9
Strength is great.
5. Drape 2
Because it’s a double layer stitch, it’s pretty solid, and therefore doesn’t normally have great movement.
6. Comfort 9
Awesome.
7. Texture 1
Almost none, since both sides look like jersey.

8. Thickness 8
Thick. Basically double the thickness of jersey. Show a side by side comparison of jersey and jacquard.
9. Weight 7
Because it’s thick, it’s got weight.
10. Torquing 1
Because this stitch uses both beds of the machine evenly, you’re not going to have torquing.
11. Balance 10
Very balanced since it uses both beds of the machine evenly.
12. Stretch 3
Stretch is low to medium, depending on the knitting tension.
