Synopsis:
Set against the backdrop of post-Independence India, Naukri is a poignant social drama that highlights the struggle and disillusionment of the educated youth.

The story follows Ratan Kumar Chaudhary (played by Kishore Kumar), an optimistic young man who leaves his village and his ailing sister, Uma, to seek employment in the bustling city of Calcutta. Confident that his degree will guarantee him a job and a better life for his family, Ratan soon faces the harsh reality of urban life—nepotism, corruption, and an indifferent job market.

Living in a "Bekar" (Unemployed) lodge with other struggling young men, Ratan finds hope in the love of Seema (Sheila Ramani), but her father refuses to marry her to a man without a steady income. As Ratan travels from Calcutta to Bombay in a desperate search for work, the film captures his transition from a naive dreamer to a man hardened by life's bitter experiences.
