The Ijaw Transitional Council has barricaded the East/West road, along the Mbiama axis, in protest over perceived derogatory comments allegedly made by the minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike about the Ijaw ethnic nationality.
The protesters, who are largely made up of Ijaw youths, and led by the chairman of the Central Zone of the Ijaw Youth Council, blocked the highway, causing gridlock and disrupting economic activities.
