Pakistan’s top civil and military leadership has reaffirmed its commitment to completely eliminating terrorism following a high-level Apex Committee meeting. Senior journalist and analyst Nadeem Malik stressed that decisive action was necessary against armed militants, stating that those carrying weapons and threatening national security must be dealt with firmly. The military leadership has reportedly expressed its determination to eliminate terrorist networks within weeks rather than months. Senator Rana Sanaullah revealed that 201 militant formations are operating across 12 districts, highlighting the scale of the security challenges facing the country.

The meeting also sparked a political debate over the government's counterterrorism strategy and the need for cooperation with opposition parties. PTI Senator Barrister Ali Zafar urged the federal government to take Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on board in its efforts to combat terrorism. He emphasised that political parties should be briefed on the decisions and discussions of the Apex Committee to ensure national unity against militancy. Ali Zafar maintained that counterterrorism efforts required political consensus and cooperation rather than confrontation between the government and opposition.

Senator Rana Sanaullah made a significant revelation regarding the imposition of emergency rule in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, claiming that PTI had been offered an opportunity to avoid the immediate enforcement of emergency measures. According to Sanaullah, the party was informed that the emergency could be postponed if Chief Minister Sohail Afridi was removed from office. Responding to the political developments, Barrister Ali Zafar stated that governor's rule had already been imposed, while a meeting with PTI founder Imran Khan was still not being facilitated. He expressed confidence that the provincial assembly would be restored and Sohail Afridi would continue serving as chief minister.

Addressing the possibility of an in-house political change in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Rana Sanaullah maintained that replacing the chief minister was an internal matter for PTI. However, he stressed that any incoming leadership must agree with the state's position on national security and counterterrorism. Barrister Ali Zafar, meanwhile, called for continued political engagement, saying that the door to dialogue should never be closed. He supported a meeting between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and the opposition leader, expressing hope that meaningful discussions could help resolve the country's political challenges. The developments have brought renewed attention to the relationship between national security decisions, political stability and the future of governance in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
