Episode 21 The Palace-Fortress of Masada

Описание: Welcome to Episode #21 of our series, “Picture This” from Israel! This episode takes us to Masada. Located on the edge of the Judean Desert and on the western shoreline of the Dead Sea, Masada was first established by Herod the Great as one of his several “palace-fortresses” (he also built Machaerus on the eastern side of the Dead Sea in Jordan today and Herodium to the east of Bethlehem). However, following the destruction of the Temple in AD 70, 967 Jews (according to Josephus, but probably a couple dozen more) escaped here and found refuge for several years as they held out against the Romans. In this video we try and “picture” what that would have been like as we visit several of the ruins on this “stand-alone” mountain!
