TRIP REPORT | Last Flight on ITA A330! | Rome to Washington | ITA Airways A330-200

Описание: ITA Airways Trip Report flying from Rome to Washington onboard one of ITA Airways Airbus A330 200 aircraft, on a beautiful autumn morning that marked my very last flight on this model with ITA Airways.

This was a comfortable transatlantic journey from Rome Fiumicino FCO to Washington Dulles IAD. The flight was not full and we were lucky to have an empty seat next to us, which made the nine-hour crossing much more enjoyable. However, ITA’s A330 200 fleet clearly shows its age. The cabin looks worn, the seats feel outdated, the windows are scratched, and the in-flight entertainment system did not work properly. It is not exactly the aircraft you would hope to be on for a long-haul flight across the Atlantic. Luckily, they retired them, so that won't be the case :)

Before departure, we spent some time exploring and planespotting at Rome Fiumicino Airport. Boarding started well ahead of schedule, but despite the early process, we ended up departing about one hour late due to a pushback tug failure that required a replacement.

After takeoff, we headed out over the Mediterranean, flying parallel to Italy’s west coast before passing Corsica and continuing toward Nice. We crossed all of France and entered the Atlantic over Normandy, leaving the United Kingdom and Ireland on our right as we began our five-hour North Atlantic crossing.

We entered Canadian airspace over Newfoundland, continued south toward Boston, and from there flew direct to Washington Dulles, where we landed approximately forty minutes behind schedule.

Regarding the onboard service, two meal services were offered, a full hot meal after departure and a pre landing snack. I chose the beef option and unfortunately, it turned out to be one of the worst airline meals I have had in a very long time. It was bland, small in portion, and had an unpleasant texture. If ITA Airways aims to rebuild its reputation and compete strongly in the transatlantic market, catering quality is definitely an area that needs improvement.
