The princely residence castle is located in the center of the town park of Detmold. Originally, this building was more of a fortress than the beautiful castle you can admire today.
All through the Middle Ages the fortress was expanded but only as recently as in the 18th century the former fortress was renovated according to Baroque style and with this turned into a luxurious castle.
You can visit part of the Renaissance castle daily by means of a guided tour.
Marvel at the various state rooms and halls, which mainly date from the 18th and 19th centuries, although there are older items such as the Brussels tapestries from the 17th century on display.
Dr. Armin Prinz zur Lippe still lives in the castle; he is related to the Dutch royal family.

Filming in the courtyard (and inside the castle) is not allowed (so I was told after I finished filming).
