'Ariel's song' is a track on instrumental compilation "Sketches of Innocence." CD/download here: http://www.ashaquinn.com/sketchesofin...
This piece was originally on "Field of Stars" in 1994, a predominantly instrumental album, inspired by the pilgrimage to Santiago de Compostela (St. James of the Field of Stars), in north western Spain. My wife and I went to Santiago when we first met. The pilgrimage route is known as the 'Camino' (the way).
I recorded it at Phil Thornton's studio in Sussex, and it was he who played the weaving descant, base & treble recorders on the track. The actual tape machine we used was the same machine used by Mike Oldfield & producer Tom Newman to record "Tubular Bells," passed on to Phil who, along with myself and Mike's brother Terry Oldfield, were fellow artists for New World Music.
Upon hearing the track, my wife called it 'Ariel's song' because of its playful, mischievous, spritely nature, that reminded her of the character Ariel in Shakespeare's "The Tempest." In that play Ariel was an elemental sprite who aided the magician Prospero.
The piece itself is a short playful vignette with a light and laughing spirit, so in compiling and editing this film I researched footage of an innocent and pure nature.
After "Field of Stars" was sadly deleted by New World Music, I resurrected the tracks independantly and put this on a compilation album of playful vignettes, and called it, with gratitude "Sketches of Innocence."
