The Kepong Hong De Sports Association lion dance team of Kepong, Kuala Lumpur had performed a traditional lion dance routine in a lion dance competition held on the 22nd June 2019 at Eko Cheras mall, Kuala Lumpur.
In this competition, the contestants are required to perform the traditional lion dance routine which depicts the daily routine of the lion, such as getting ready for bed, sleeping, waking up and grooming and chasing fleas. Once done, it emerges from the cave to greet a presumably sunny day and goes to the nearby river to drink from it. Once satisfied, it proceeds to cross the river at the front of the cave via a bench, tree trunk or stepping stones, which is frightening to the lion. After that, it proceeds to "Choi Chiang" or to forage for greens and proceeds to eat them. Subsequently it continues to explore until it comes across a snake blocking its path and proceeds to attack and kill it. After the encounter, the lion decides to return to the cave and crossed the same bridge bisecting the treacherous river once more.
The competition ran from 22nd June 2019 to 23rd June 2019 that saw 42 teams from the Peninsular Malaysia participating in it. The competing teams were evaluated by a group of judges for their creativity and agility and penalized for their mistakes and clumsiness.
