TOM CRUISE || Career Tribute (1981–2022)

Like many, Top Gun Maverick was my first time back in a movie theatre since 2019. It was such an extraordinary achievement, and perfectly captured everything that has defined Tom Cruise’s films for over 4 decades. Story, character, emotion. Incredible action too, of course. But that would have far less impact, at least to me personally as a viewer, without his famous commitment to story, character & emotion.

So, when I (momentarily lost my mind and) decided to attempt this video, I wanted to pay tribute to those three things in particular, as well as his incredible performances, and overall career. If I managed to achieve even a fraction of that, I’ll be happy :)

As challenging as this was, I think it was the most fun I’ve ever had editing. It was an absolute joy to work with such fantastic, entertaining and moving material. Every single one of his films as an actor is represented here, and there were SO many other moments I wish I’d been able to include. But I wanted the video to be mostly narrative driven, so some things just didn’t quite fit.

Anyway, as a lifelong fan of movies, this is just my small way of paying tribute to one of cinema’s greatest ever contributors and champions.
