WHY YOU NEED TO REGISTER YOUR SCRIPT!

Описание: Although registration is no longer a requirement to obtain copyright protection, registration does provide important benefits to copyright holders and is often necessary.

First, registration with the US Copyright office is essentially always required by financiers, distribution companies, E&O insurers and other third parties who may have an interest in maintaining or protecting the property.

Second, registration establishes a public record of your copyright ownership and the date the script was created.

Third, if there is an infringement of the work, registration is necessary before suit can be filed in court and the copyright owner can be entitled to statutory damages and attorney’s fees instead of being solely limited to proving actual damages sustained.

Many writers register with the Writers Guild of America, which is fine to do as WGA registration does maintain a record of your material and the submission date but it does not offer any formal, legal copyright protections.
