Lecture delivered to the Canadian Aviation Historical Society (CAHS) Winnipeg chapter on February 26, 2026.
Making its first flight in 1949, the Avro Canada Ltd. C102 Jetliner was only the second purpose-built commercial jet transport to fly (after the de Havilland Comet) and the first designed for the short-to-medium range regional market. A decade ahead of its closest competitors and loved by all who flew in it, the Jetliner seemed poised to dominate the North American aviation market. Tragically, however, due to industry conservatism, government interference, and other factors, the project was soon cancelled and the sole prototype cut up for scrap.
