Often we assume that if a dog has hind end weakness it's coming from the hips. However, often the problem is actually coming from the spine due to IVDD (Intervertebral Disc Disease) or DDD. When those discs compress, they pinch the nerves that power the back legs.
A lot of people are nervous about touching the tail, but when done correctly, it's one of the most powerful tools we have to relieve pressure on the spinal cord and get those back legs working again!
In this video, I demonstrate Lumbar Traction—using both pelvic and tail techniques—to gently decompress the spine. By doing this a few times a day, we can take the pressure off those 'power lines' and see a massive improvement in how your dog stands and walks.
In this session, I cover:
• The "L-S" Joint: Why this specific spot on the skeleton drives so much weakness.
[0:00-0:33] I'll show you the exact hand placements I use on Gunnar to safely decompress the spine.
{0:33-end] We will use the tail for another traction technique. Trust us, they often love it!
