The Solar charges in the sun from dead to full in 140 minutes utilizing the solar feature. The trickle charge the solar gets from non-full sun exposure helps make the 24/7 features last longer. In a survival situation this feature would be great to have.
Both The Solar and Regular versions charge under 30 minutes to full when plugged in. The GPS feature takes a lot of battery and will require you to charge even the Solar version by plugging in after about 16 hours. The Regular Garmin lasts 14 days using the 24/7 features without a recharge.
