Deepak Devraj Komath, popularly known as Deepak Dev, is an Indian music composer renowned for his contributions to Malayalam cinema. Born on April 30, 1978, he began his musical journey as a member of the Kochi-based rock band Motherjane before transitioning to film composition. His debut in the film industry was marked by the 2003 movie “Chronic Bachelor,” directed by Siddique. 

Over the years, Deepak Dev has crafted numerous acclaimed soundtracks for films such as “Puthiya Mukham,” “Udayananu Tharam,” “Grandmaster,” and “Bhaskar the Rascal.” His work in “Puthiya Mukham” earned him the Asianet Film Award for Best Music Director, while his background score for “Urumi” secured the Kerala State Film Award for Best Background Score. 

In 2025, Deepak Dev composed the original soundtrack for “L2: Empuraan,” the sequel to the 2019 film “Lucifer.” Directed by Prithviraj Sukumaran and starring Mohanlal, “L2: Empuraan” continues the saga of Stephen Nedumpally, delving deeper into his transformation into the enigmatic Khureshi Ab’raam, a global crime syndicate leader.  

The film’s soundtrack has been praised for its dynamic and evocative compositions, enhancing the narrative’s intensity and depth. Notably, the “L2: Empuraan Teaser Theme,” featuring Deepak Dev, Prarthana Indrajith, and Prithviraj Sukumaran, was released as a single, offering audiences a glimpse into the film’s musical landscape. Additionally, the “L2: Empuraan Trailer Theme,” a collaboration between Deepak Dev and Anand Sreeraj, further showcases the film’s compelling score.  

Deepak Dev’s continued collaboration with director Prithviraj Sukumaran and actor Mohanlal in “L2: Empuraan” underscores his significant role in shaping the auditory experience of contemporary Malayalam cinema.
