Unnecessary nicks in armored cable wire insulation cause rework, call-backs and possible arc faults. The Sir Nickless™ Armored Cable Cutter protects the wires by drawing them down and providing an airspace above the wires creating room for the cutting blade.
Electrical contractors had been using some type of flexible armored cable for many years when installing electrical circuits in a building. They use it to make fixture whips for lighting fixtures and many other electrical circuits.
Many years ago this was done simply with a hack saw and strong pair of pliers being very careful not to nick the conductors in the cable or the fingers. In many cases both would happen.
In this video I would like to introduce you to the Sir Nickless™ armored cable cutter our catalog number 35 – 782 you can take a look at our website or contact our customer service department to learn more.
Unnecessary nick’s in armored cable wire insulation cause rework, call backs and possible arc faults. The Sir Nickless protects armored cable wires by drawing the wires down creating an airspace above the wires providing room for the cutter blade to shear through and sever the armored casing without nicking the wires within.
The cable Cutter works well on all popular types of armored cable up to 3/8 inch diameter ( show BX AC MC MCAP® Greenfield also Southwire info on screen).
The Sir Nickless is unique in that it has a curved design that allows the wires to draw down providing room for the cutting blade. Simply insert the armored cable into the tool and tighten down the adjustment knob until the armored cable fits snugly in the tool. This adjustment only needs to be done once unless you change the size of the armored cable you are using. Pulling back the armored cable locks the cable into the tool. Rotate the handle several times and cut smoothly through the armored cable. The handle will spin effortlessly when you’ve completely cut through the armored cable. Remove the cable from the cutter and simply rotate and remove the section of the armored casing exposing the conductors for wire termination.
The cable cutter works great and is really just a round hacksaw blade mounted in a tool to make the job of cutting armored cable whole lot easier. Extra cutting blades can be stored in the handle for convenient replacement.
If you work with armored cables having the Sir Nickless cable cutter will make that job a lot easier out in the field.
