In  2009, Pastor Bob was asked to speak on the topic of Church Discipline at the Calvary Chapel Ministry Conference which had the theme of "Setting the Church in Order."  It was an extremely helpful and the most requested message among the leaders there. 

Over the span of 40 years of ministry, Pastor Bob used the biblical process laid out in Matthew 18 to pave the way for repentance and restoration for believers, particularly leaders, who were committing serious sins.  

Definition of Church Discipline:  "the corrective process instituted by Christ Jesus to bring about repentance, restoration and recovery to a sinning member of the body of Christ and to protect the church from the corrupting influence of sin".

For the most part, most churches don't practice church discipline.

What are the things that trigger church discipline?
Well, I've got three things that are listed here, and I think they kind of cover the gamut and I'll touch on these briefly.

1.Sins that damage the doctrine of the church. You can note the reference in Romans 16 17.
2.Sins that damage the unity of the church. Titus 3 10. This would be a divisive person gossiping slander things where people are trying to divide the congregation over some issue.
3.Sins that damage the purity of the church. Paul talks about this immorality, sexuality, greed, idolatry, slander, being a drunkard, a swindler. Some of these things are under that category of immorality. Paul says don't even eat with a person that lives this kind of way, and yet, names the name of Christ.
