Randy: Hey guys, it's Randy here at etrailer.com. Today we're taking a look at an adapter that allows us to switch a goose neck style trailer over to a fifth wheel with a king pin, so it'll work in our fifth wheel hitch. Now, a lot of times customers ask for products like this basically because maybe all through the week you're having a goose neck utility trailer for work, but then on the weekend you've got a fifth wheel camper you like to head out with.Maybe you've got a goose neck horse trailer and a fifth wheel camper and you want to be able to haul them both without going through the entire process of removing your fifth wheel and then placing in some kind of x plate adaptor or something along those lines. This is going to allow yo to switch your goose neck coupler out. Now, this has been designed to work and slide into most of your four inch round style goose neck couplers. It has a pin that goes through just like a goose neck coupler and a set screw here. The plate itself side to side is going to be nine and seven eighths of an inch.
That does a great job of spreading that energy out over a greater area and it's really well built. It's got really good welds on it. You can see out king pin here. It's going to be standard size, so it's going to work with any type of fifth wheel hitch. Slide right in there, lock it down, you'll be ready to go.You can see with the heavy duty construction all the really nice welds everywhere, this gives us a really good capacity. We're rated up to 25,000 pounds, so that should take care of a lot of the goose neck trailers that you intend on hauling.
It is an unpainted king pin. You can see here it's got a raw steel finish to it. With it being raw steel, you're able to paint that to match your trailer. So basically when you get it, you'll of course, want to sand blast it or wipe off any of the machining oils, have it painted to match, get it installed and it'll look really nice.Of course, fifth wheels aren't always the same height. Some of them are a little higher, some of them are a little lower so what we've done is put four holes in.
They're on two and eleven sixteenths at the center, so that's going to give us about eight inches of adjustment so we can most closely match our fifth wheel and keep our trailer riding nice and level.Installing the fifth wheel adaptor is going to be just like installing a goose neck coupler. We're going to place this up and in, bring it up to line up our pin holes, then slide our original pin through and we'll need to clip that into place. Once you've got that in place, we'll need to run our set bolt down. We want that to make contact, then with an inch and a either wrench, we're going to tighten that down to specification.Once that's torqued out, you need an inch and an eighth wrench and we want the jam nut to come down and make contact with the weld nut and they'll we'll apply a little bit of torque to that just to make sure that doesn't back out on it.That's going to complete our look the adaptor that allows us to switch a goose neck style trailer over to a fifth wheel with a king pin so it'll work in our fifth wheel hitch.
