UPSOUND: "This is Max, my friend Max. He is just like my baby, we are very close, we have a very strong bond, I can touch him anywhere I like. Max has been my friend since he was a young age so I am just like his mother and he relies on me in everything. But I hope one day he may be free, grazing around in Ol Pejeta."

"I knew Max when he was quite small, he was introduced from Lewa, to here in Ol Pejeta, I immediately took over, I have been with him feeding him milk till now and I believe I can be proud because he was very small and now he is quite big. That is an achievement to me."

"To me he is just like my baby because once you care for an animal and you look at his well being and he cares for you, he is always with you, incase he finds an enemy he comes to you, we have a very strong bond with Max to an extent I feel he is one of me and my baby."

"Immediately after we graze him we take him in the evening where he sleeps, he just sleeps next to our home. In the evening we go and give him pellets, dairy cubes, that is one way of making him happy and attract him to us because we are not happy if Max was to go and get injured by a bull, after that he just sleeps next to our house, even at night he keeps a keen ear listening to where we are."
