Common save game locations for windows.

Look for the folders that are named after the game title or the company name.

Windows 7 c:\users\username\appdata
Windows 7 c:\users\username\my documents\my games\
Windows 7 C:\users\username\saved games\

Windows Vista: c:\Users\username\documents\my games\
Windows XP: c:\documents and settings\username\my documents\my games\

The windows appdata folder is a hidden system folder.

c:\users\username\appdata

In order to see the appdata or other system hidden folders.

You must enable the option to show hidden files.

Windows 7 Default
Start - Control Panel - All Control Panel Items - Folder Options - View - Show Hidden Files

Windows 7 Classic Shell
Start - Settings - Control Panel - Folder Options - View - Show Hidden Files

Windows Xp/Vista
Start - Control Panel - Switch to Classic View - Folder Options - View - Show Hidden Files

The resource monitor can show new files being created or accessed.

To get to the resource monitor.

Right click on windows task bar / start menu bar.

Select task manager.

Click on Performance tab then Resource Monitor.

Click on Disk tab.

Start your game and save or reload a couple of times and you should see the information pop up on the list.



Classic Shell give you back the old style start menu.

Steam might be saving the files on a server instead of your local hard drive.

To turn off steam cloud for a specific game.

Right click on the title of the game in your game library list.

Select (Properties).

Click the (updates) tab and uncheck (Enable Steam Cloud).


To turn steam cloud off for all games.

At the main steam window.

Click on Steam - Settings - Cloud

uncheck (Enable Steam Cloud)
