I Sewed a 1920s Evening Dress |

Описание: Behold! My first historical costuming project!

I was a pattern tester for the new #RoaringAndSwinging exhibit at the Museum at FIT. I made the Sleek Dress, which is based off of an original antique dress from the late 1920s, as part of the Plus Pattern Project.

The exhibition compares the fashions and social movements of the 1920s and 1960s, and it features some amazing pieces from the MFIT collection. My dress pattern is part of the Plus Pattern Project, which showcases five extant 1920s dresses, each with free patterns available for download through the exhibition website (see link below).

I wear a US size L (12-14). This dress required 2 yds of 55" wide crepe back satin for the underslip, which came from my stash.

For the lace overdress, I used 4 yards of 51" wide lace. The lace had scalloped borders on each side and I used those for the 12" trim instead of buying separate trim. To order: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B... (NOTE: You need 2 pieces to have enough lace for this project.)

I bound the armscyes and neck with 2.33 yards of satin bias tape made from some fabric in my stash. I added 40" vintage rhinestone trim (also from my stash) around the neckline instead of beading it.
