Discover Good Old Japan in Tochigi #1 | Nikko Geta (Traditional Japanese Footwear)

Nikko Geta are traditional Nikko footwear made by sewing geta (wooden clogs) onto zori (straw sandals) woven from madake bamboo bark.
The craftsmanship of Nikko geta can especially be seen in the making of the zori part. They are made of high-quality bamboo skin and woven so that only the smooth surface of the bamboo skin touches the sole. This makes them comfortable to wear, also providing coolness in summer and warmth in winter. They are designated as Tochigi Traditional Craft and are passed down by traditional craftsmen.
