Kumzari - An Indo-Iranian language indigenous to the Arabian Peninsula.

Описание: The Kumzari language is the only Indo-Iranian language spoken on the Arabian Peninsula. It is a mixed language, incorporating elements from Arabic, and Middle Persian, the grammar, vocabulary and structure is mixed although it seems to be Indo-Iranian in its base shell. It is only spoken by about 5,000 people today in the Strait of Hormuz and on part the Southeastern seaboard of the Arabian Peninsula in the Musandam Region and the language in its former stronghold appears to have Arabic encroaching on it and although the language is still being passed down to the younger generations, their command of the language is not nearly as strong as generations past. There is a Laraki dialect spoken on the island of Larak in the Strait of Hormuz, part of Modern-day Iran, spoken by about 500 people and this variety may be safe and tends to be closer to other Iranian languages but 500 people still constitutes an endangered figure. This video aims to shed light on what is an extremely fascinating language, the (possible) story of how it came to be, and its features, both those common to other tongues and a couple of unique features.
