The human ear is a complex organ responsible for hearing and balance. It is divided into three main parts:

1. Outer Ear (External Ear)
Pinna (Auricle) – The visible, cartilaginous part that collects sound waves and directs them into the ear canal.
External Auditory Canal – A tube-like passage that carries sound waves to the eardrum.
Tympanic Membrane (Eardrum) – A thin membrane that vibrates in response to sound waves and transmits vibrations to the middle ear.
2. Middle Ear
Ossicles (Ear Bones) – Three tiny bones that amplify sound vibrations:
Malleus (Hammer)
Incus (Anvil)
Stapes (Stirrup) (smallest bone in the human body)
Eustachian Tube – Connects the middle ear to the throat to equalize air pressure on both sides of the eardrum.
3. Inner Ear
Cochlea – A spiral-shaped, fluid-filled structure containing hair cells responsible for converting sound vibrations into electrical signals sent to the brain via the auditory nerve.
Vestibular System – Includes the semicircular canals, utricle, and saccule, which help maintain balance and spatial orientation.
How the Ear Works
Sound waves enter through the outer ear and reach the eardrum.
The eardrum vibrates, transmitting sound to the ossicles.
Ossicles amplify vibrations and pass them to the cochlea.
The cochlea converts vibrations into electrical signals.
The auditory nerve sends signals to the brain, interpreting them as sound.
The ear also plays a crucial role in maintaining balance through the vestibular system.
