We made an attempt at backpacking the Wonderland Trail only to end up turning around 25 miles in due to big snow covering the trail above 5k feet...the time frame for our permit just wasn't going to cut it. We were told by park rangers that there was some snow on the trail, but there was a few times an ice axe and cramp ons would have been helpful - we made it back safely and had a great July 4th weekend despite the altered itinerary!
