IN THE MOUNTAINS is a festival and platform bringing together artists, cultural workers, and activists from the South Caucasus and beyond, working at the intersection of contemporary art, queer and feminist practices, and human rights.

IN THE MOUNTAINS is a cultural bottom-up festivals from the South Caucasus region that actively experiments with collectivity and cross-border collaboration on queer and feminist issues across long-standing conflict divides. Over the past decades, these divisions have deepened fractures between communities, while cultural production has often been instrumentalized for nationalist narratives. This pressure is particularly acute for queer and feminist communities, whose struggles unfold amid rising authoritarianism, shrinking civic space, and limited opportunities for transnational solidarity.

The 2025 edition unfolds under the theme “Reversed Rivers”, reflecting on movements against the current: resistance, care, survival, and re-imagined futures. Through artistic practices, the festival explores how flows of power, memory, bodies, and knowledge can be redirected, interrupted, or reclaimed.

The festival took place on 12–13–14 September 2025 at Panke Culture, Berlin, and featured film screenings, performances, concerts, discussions, community gatherings, and interdisciplinary artistic formats.

IN THE MOUNTAINS 2025 continues to build a transnational space for shared practices, collective learning, and political imagination in response to the realities faced by queer and feminist communities in the region and beyond.
