Описание: Every raga has a strict set of rules which govern the number of notes that can be used; which notes can be used; and their interplay that has to be adhered to for the composition of a tune. In the Guru Granth Sahib Ji, there are a total of 60 raga compositions and this raga is the forty-ninth raga to appear in the series. The composition in this raga appear on a total of 29 pages from page numbers (Ang) 1168 to 1170.


Origin
Vasant is a Sanskrit word for "spring". The word is much older than the Sikh religion and any usage of the word in relation to melody or Sikh tradition is a later rendition of the word.

The variants noted in the Holy Book are Basant-Hindol and Shudh Basant which also called Desi Basant in the local language. Basant is a very old raga dating from the 8th century. Guru Nanak Dev Ji, Guru Amar Das Ji, Guru Ram Das Ji, Guru Arjan Dev Ji and Guru Tegh Bahadar Ji composed Shabads in this raga. Performed in slow tempo, this gentle melody depicts quiet joy. The descending scale is usually found at the beginning of a composition with the ascending form follows later.

राग बसंत या राग वसंत शास्त्रीय संगीत की हिंदुस्तानी पद्धति का राग है। वसंत का अर्थ वसंत ऋतु से है, अतः इसे विशेष रूप से वसंत ऋतु में गाया बजाया जाता है। इसके आरोह में पाँच तथा अवरोह में सात स्वर होते हैं। अतः यह औडव-संपूर्ण जाति का राग है। वसंत ऋतु में गाया जाने के कारण इस राग में होलियाँ बहुत मिलती हैं। यह प्रसन्नता तथा उत्फुल्लता का राग है। ऐसा माना जाता है कि इसके गाने व सुनने से मन प्रसन्न हो जाता है। इसका गायन समय रात का अंतिम प्रहर है किंतु यह दिन या रात में किसी समय भी गाया बजाया जा सकता है। रागमाला में इसे राग हिंडोल का पुत्र माना गया है। यह पूर्वी थाट का राग है। शास्त्रों में इससे मिलते जुलते एक राग वसंत हिंडोल का उल्लेख भी मिलता है। यह एक अत्यंत प्राचीन राग है जिसका उल्लेख अनेक प्राचीन ग्रंथों में मिलता है।

संक्षिप्त परिचय राग बसंत-

"दो मध्यम कोमल ऋषभ चढ़त न पंचम कीन्ह।

स-म वादी संवादी ते, यह बसंत कह दीन्ह॥'

आरोह- सा ग, म॑ ध॒ रें॒ सां, नि सां।

अवरोह- रें॒ नि ध॒ प, म॑ ग म॑ ऽ ग, म॑ ध॒ ग म॑ ग, रे॒ सा।

पकड़- म॑ ध॒ रें॒ सां, नि ध॒ प, म॑ ग म॑ ऽ ग।

इस राग के बारे में कुछ मतभेद भी हैं। पहले मतानुसार इस राग में केवल तीव्र मध्यम का प्रयोग होना चाहिये, मगर दूसरे मतानुसार दोनो म का प्रयोग होना चाहिये जो कि आज प्रचलन में है।

विशेषता- उत्तरांग प्रधान राग होने की वजह से इसमें तार सप्तक का सा ख़ूब चमकता है। शुद्ध म का प्रयोग केवल आरोह में एक विशेष तरह से होता है- सा म, म ग, म॑ ध॒ सां।

गायन समय- रात्रि का अंतिम प्रहर (मगर बसंत ऋतु में इसे हर समय गाया बजाया जा सकता है।

इसे परज राग से बचाने के लिये आरोह में नि का लंघन करते हैं-

This is an Indian musical raga (composition) that appears in the Sikh tradition from northern India and is part of the Sikh holy scripture called Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji or SGGS for short. Raag Basant (ਬਸੰਤੁ) – Basant denotes the changing of the season and the newness of spring. This Raag encourages the mind to brush away its selfishness, just like spring-cleaning removes all the cobwebs and creates a fresh start. There are feelings of hope and expectation of a new beginning and the start of a new cycle. However, these emotions are not dependent on the physical change of the season, but are an encouragement of an internal effort to change.
