Why Wednesday ~ My horse often moves or stomps his hind feet when I’m doing scapula releases. Is it discomfort or is he releasing something?
Answer: Great question, and one we hear often.
When you work in the scapula area, you’re not just affecting the shoulder. The muscles involved connect from the lower neck, under the scapula, along the back, and into the hindquarters. So when you release tension here, the body often responds somewhere else.
That hind leg movement isn’t necessarily discomfort. In many cases, it’s a release; a sign that tension is traveling and letting go through connected muscle chains.
This is also why it is always better to work the whole body, not just one isolated area. If there’s restriction in the back, the answer isn’t only work there, it’s understanding how everything connects and work holistically.
