This Sunday’s readings draw us into the heart of Lent as a season of trust, transformation, and holy encounter.
Genesis 12:1–4a
God calls Abram to step into the unknown with nothing but a promise—an invitation to trust that blessing can begin with a single, courageous “yes.”
Psalm 121
A song of assurance: God is our keeper, our shade, our constant help in every step of the journey.
Romans 4:1–5, 13–17
Paul reminds us that God’s promises rest not on our perfection but on faith—on opening ourselves to the grace that makes new life possible.
John 3:1–17 (or Matthew 17:1–9)
In John, Nicodemus seeks Jesus under cover of night and hears the call to be “born from above”—to let God’s Spirit reshape what we think is possible.
In Matthew, the Transfiguration reveals Christ’s glory and invites the disciples to listen, trust, and follow even when the path leads down the mountain into uncertainty.
Together, these readings set a mood of trusting God’s leading, even when the way is unfamiliar, and of allowing God’s grace to reshape us from the inside out.
THE COLLECT
O God, whose glory it is always to have mercy: Be gracious to all who have gone astray from your ways, and bring them again with penitent hearts and steadfast faith to embrace and hold fast the unchangeable truth of your Word, Jesus Christ your Son; who with you and the Holy Spirit lives and reigns, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.
