Hiking Table Mountain | The MUST SEE Quiet Side of The Grand Tetons

Join us in this video for our final day in Driggs, Idaho. We have a big hike planned that we are very excited for! Table Mountain is a hike we had read about before coming here and it also came recommended by several locals in Driggs.

After spending a full day in the National Park yesterday, we wanted to do a hike in The “Teton Valley” which is often referred to as the “Quiet side" of the Grand Tetons.

Grand Teton National Park is on the east side of the Teton Range and is of course (and rightfully so) renowned for great hiking with stunning views. From what we understand, the Teton Valley, which is on the west side in the Jedediah Smith Wilderness in Targhee National Forest, is much less visited.

The Table Mountain trail is located near where we are staying in Driggs. We get a little bit of a later start because we have to check out of our Airbnb in the morning, but we drive the 30 minutes to the trail and get started around 9:30AM.

The trailhead sits at about 6,800 feet elevation and there are two options to reach the 11,106 foot summit. The first option, Huckleberry, is about 7 miles long and is considered easier as it builds elevation slowly. The second option, The Face, is only 4 miles long, but is considered very difficult as it is extremely steep.

We elect to climb up The Face and then make our way back down Huckleberry, making it an 11 mile loop. From what we understand, this is the most popular way to tackle the route... and Myles loves a loop hike. :)

We get moving on the trail and it does not mess around, right out the gate it is STEEP! It essentially follows straight up the mountain so we are pretty slow going but make steady progress. After around a mile, we come to a lookout down the valley, we take a quick break and then continue on.

After a couple miles, we finally get a break in the steepness and the trail levels out for a bit. We hike along the side of the mountain and there are beautiful wild flowers all around us. We have seen a lot of wildflowers hiking over the summer out West, but this tops it all.

Around this point we finally catch a glimpse of the top of Table Mountain where we are heading! We make it to the ridge of the mountain where we make our final ascent. This section is pretty steep, especially the final push.

We finally reach the summit which has jaw-dropping views of the Grand, Middle and South Tetons. We are also able to see down into Cascade Canyon which we just hiked yesterday.

We enjoy the incredible view for an hour + before starting our descent. After we make it down off the ridge, we reach the split off between the Face and Huckleberry. While it's tempting to take the shorter route at this point, we stick to our original plan.

The route down Huckleberry is very scenic but honestly it is still pretty steep in the beginning. We make our way down several switchbacks and have a view back at Table Mountain for a good portion before making our way through the trees.

We finally reach the car and feel accomplished and very happy we had the opportunity to hike this trail! It was a great way to end our time in the Tetons and now we're heading to our next stop, Rigby, Idaho!
