Dr. Kaplan explains that both of these conditions - chronic pain conditions & neuro-psychiatric conditions such as depression and anxiety disorders - are neuro-inflammatory conditions. This neuro-inflammation is a result of the hyper-regulation of microglia, cells which drive inflammation in the central nervous system.
